Karen Hough

Retired Deputy Sheriff

Karen Hough is a devoted mother, public servant, and advocate whose life has been defined by family, service, and a commitment to protecting others. Born in Michigan and raised in Arkansas, Karen moved to Arizona at the age of 11, where she would ultimately build a life rooted in community and purpose.

In 1967, Karen married her husband, John Hough, and together they began raising their family with the birth of their first child, Stacie, in 1968. Over the years, their family grew to include three more children—Sherri, Michael, and Marci. During their early years, Karen dedicated herself to being a homemaker, providing a strong and supportive foundation for her children.

In the mid-1980s, Karen answered a call to serve and began a career in law enforcement as a deputy sheriff with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. Following her husband’s retirement from the Phoenix Police Department, the family relocated to Prescott Valley, where Karen continued her law enforcement career with the Chino Valley Police Department. She served her community with integrity and dedication until her eventual retirement.

After the passing of her husband in May 2023, Karen returned to the Phoenix area to be closer to her daughters and family. Even in retirement, her passion for service remained strong. In 2025, after riding along with the Phoenix Police Department’s HEAT team, Karen was deeply moved by the realities of human and sex trafficking. Inspired to take action, she joined her daughter Stacie in helping to establish the Southwest Guardian Foundation, an organization dedicated to combating trafficking and restoring hope to victims.

Karen Hough’s life reflects resilience, compassion, and an unwavering dedication to both her family and her community.
